Another good read. Though I liked the plot of the first one a bit more

In the second installment of the Percy Jackson series, Percy and his friends are thrown into one of the oldest stories in Greek mythology: the retrieval of the Golden Fleece. When Percy and his friends Annabeth and Tyson (his cyclops half brother) return to Camp Half Blood, they find that have been asked to retrieve the borders of the camp have been poisoned and weakened, letting in a slew of monsters to attack the demigods. On top of this, Percy discovers that his friend Grover has been taken prisoner by the Cyclops Polyphemus in the Sea of Monsters. Determined to rescue him as well as the rest of Camp Halfblood, Percy and his friends make the perilous journey into the Sea of Monsters to save Grover and retrieve the Golden Fleece to help heal the camp's borders.

I did find this book enjoyable, but I felt that it did not have the same urgency as the first book. The plotline was good but lacked the big stakes that the previous book had presented. However, I feel like the end of the book made things a lot more interesting! I also loved the banter between the characters. Riordan seems to have found that sweet spot of having enough banter without making it sound unnatural and forced. Percy Jackson sounds exactly how I would imagine a twelve year old boy would sound. I know that I will be watching him grow up and I cannot wait for that! I am currently listening to the next part of the series and am loving it!
