Wooh! That was a fun read! This is the first Tintin book I read, and I see why lots of people love this classic series. Definitely going to read others in it.

Read this in French, trying of course to consume more original French content. Tintin au Tibet, is definitely a good read especially for upper beginner and lower intermediate French learners. Once again, pictures definitely help associate context to the words so its much easier to follow this, then a novel. I will say there's some difficulties, because of the dialogue, that characters will often include slang. In particular, Capitain Haddock, had a lot of slang words that I've never seen before, but I imagine I will see more often in other issues.

Back to the story, Tintin au Tibet, is about Tintin who reads in the newspaper that a tragic airplane accident happens in Nepal. He soon learns that one of the victims on the plane is his good friend Tchang. However, he has some sort of dream, and he believes that he's actually alive. He, Captain Haddock and his dog Milou fly to Nepal to find proof that Tchang is alive. On their journey, they encounter quite tough conditions, as they have to explore mountains and snow in order to reach the accident site, and to look for clues in those areas.

Despite this, it is quite a fun, light-hearted adventure story. I would say for sure, Captain Haddock is quite a funny character, and I do also like how much he cares for Tintin, always trying to keep him safe, despite trudging forward through more danger, despite how much he thinks its a dumb idea to continue. I realize this is a bit late into the series, but luckily its not so important to start from the beginning. Definitely going to check out a few of the other graphic novels in the series!

Tintin sets off on a dangerous journey to help the friend who met with a plane crash, whom the media had already declared dead. Only based on a nightmare and self intuition, Tintin decides to go into a hostile atmosphere to rescue his friend, Chang. A series of events take control of the plot, sometimes supernatural aspects, sometimes the conspiracy of fate, and sometimes even a bottle of whiskey. With Captain Haddock’s banter and Tintin’s courage, the comic novel is unquestionably a fabulous one.

Good Tintin, not great Tintin -- a very linear storyline, essentially one long trip. Some great large-panel illustrations: Tintin waking up from his nightmare at the chessboard ("CHANG!") and the panorama of the wrecked airplane.

Realism doesn't really matter in Tintin, but interesting from an adult perspective: the intro establishes some mountaineering cred for Tintin, but what on earth is the Captain doing on vertical slopes? Also, the good mariner is really pushing the limit of his (hilarious?) alcoholism in this episode -- is that level of whiskey consumption even survivable?
