I thought based on the description that this book would be something I really liked. But at the end of the day, it was definitely something that I didn't mind finishing, but not something I would say that I really enjoyed.

You have the cat and mouse game between a detective named Paul and the serial killer, Daniel. But you know who the serial killer is from the very beginning, which I feel like I lost something with.

I was also extremely uncomfortable with how graphic some of the scenes were in the book, it truly turned me off. I also felt like I didn't find any connection or anything to any of the characters. It was a difficult book for me to read.

Rain Will Come is a police procedural with a character who doesn't mind bending the rules when necessary - my very favorite kind. The story is well-written and definitely held on tight from the beginning. The story does lean toward the gruesome, but that didn't bother me. The whole thing is fast-paced, and the characters are well-rounded. It's just an all around good read, and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good procedural with a flawed main character.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Seeing that I received the book through Netgalley made me really happy, because the blurb got me curious! The book has a ton of ratings and gets around 4 stars, so I was hoping this would be a good thriller. As you can see I finished it in 3 days, and that's always something good, because I can't read that fast if I don't like a book.

If you love mystery/thrillers you are in for a treat. This book is a real page-turner and I'm sure you'll be hooked in no time, not able to put the book away. Make sure you'll be able to handle gruesome details and before you know it you'll be rooting for the killer...

Typically enjoy a gritty detective...but he leaned too far on the side of asshat. Also, overly disgusting scenes.

However, the style was clean and fast paced!

I love a good vigilante murder mystery! Daniel is in that grey area of being a criminal, but those he murders are predators themselves, so the reader can somewhat sympathize with him.

Czarcik is one of those old-school detectives who doesn’t follow the law so well himself.

This was a well written mystery/thriller. A bit graphic at times and that seemed to distract from the overall story. A decent debut novel from Holgate.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Rain Will Come by Thomas Holgate starts out with the reader knowing who the killer is. A new twist on a serial killer thriller. We have a real game of who can catch who "cat and mouse" type thriller. What is motivating Detective Czarcik? Why does Detective Czarcik decide to color a little outside the lines? This book is a face paced book and I enjoyed it. "This book was given to me for free at my request from NetGalley and I provided this voluntary review."

I...don't even know where to start. I couldn't tell if this book was supposed to be an homage to the detective trope or if it was trying to poke fun at it. The main character was extremely unlikable, but in that stereotypical, "I'm an older man who hates everyone and is offensive just because I can," kind of way. The antagonist was just...bland, and honestly, quite laughable in some ways. I mean, really. You read "The Lorax" and you suddenly have the desire to start killing people who hurt children? No. I'm sorry. But no. This was just overall messy and confusing and just downright annoying. I don't know if it was supposed to be veering into paranormal territory, or if it was a mystery, or if it was even satire. Everything was too rushed and it felt like it was graphic just for the sake of being graphic. I did not like this at all and honestly I still don't even fully know how to process what I just read.

This is the ultimate in detective junk food novels. Every trope, all the predictable. As comfortable as law and order. A fast read with nothing new. It serves as literary white noise.
