I thought the world and mythology of this story were interesting and the illustrations were anime-y, but pretty. The first volume ends on a cliffhanger, but overall I didn’t care about this one enough to continue with the story.

This is very much the first book in a series, doing a lot of work to set up the characters, the world, and the story. That said, it's done really well. The characters are instantly interesting, the style is really unique and attractive, and the story is starting off in an exciting way.

Wow - incredible world building through gorgeous art! This first installment sets the stage for an epic adventure with a truly unique, fantastic sci fi/fantasy world.
Some of the pacing is choppy and too speedy (I think kids can handle a bit slower reveal of clues), and the characters aren't fully developed (yet??), but overall this is an exciting start to a series I'd personally keep reading, school assignment prep aside!

The art is just so beautiful. I love the coloring most of all, it is simply amazing to look at.

The world building also makes it deserving 5 starts I think. Very interesting and unique words.

The plot is interesting enough, but not the highlight for me. The characters are highl  likable however.

A great introduction to a new world inspired equally by Avatar: The Last Airbender, Studio Ghibli, and the mystic SF comics of Jodorowsky and Moebius, though never feeling like a rehash or imitation. Can't wait for the second volume to come out!

Edit: Still awesome after reading it a fourth time.
