This was a bit slow in the first half but first books in a series can do that. The rest of it was good and I like Jack Irish. I had a bit of trouble with the slang but I got the gist of it. I'll read another.

I was surprised to realise that I didn't enjoy this book at all! After reading some reviews, and my normal love of crime fiction, I expected more, but this book just didn't deliver for me. No, I'm not all that interested in horse-racing/gambling, but I expected to be a little invested in the plot. As it turned out, I couldn't care less. A shame!

good typical crime novel. nothing special. also it seems all crime novels have to include something about a sex ring. otherwise it's not a crime novel. sex rings must be a very important thing.
