I really don’t know how I feel about this book. For one thing, the title is entirely not reflective of the book. Her “education” is abuse and trauma. Also, I feel like the boom really glorified the terrible things that happened to Dixie at the end when she seemed so happy. It did not seem like a realistic reaction to what happened.

CW for child sexual abuse and rape. I wish I hadn’t read this book.

This book is so hard to read because of the content.  It has all types of abuse: physical, mental, and sexual.  The writing is incredible in that it really makes you feel pain, sadness, anger, and sympathy.  It tells the story of a young girl, Dixie Dupree.  Due to her abusive mother she has learned to lie as a coping mechanism.  Her mother has a number of excuses for her abusive behavior including her marriage.  I felt really bad for the husband.  The mother is an all around toxic and abusive person.  Due to events that happen, Dixie’s Uncle comes to help.  Dixie, her Mom, and her brother all travel to her maternal grandparents’ home.  Dixie sees a life of wealth and peacefulness she has not known.  Things get worse before they get better though.  The Aunt ends up being my favorite character.  Although the subject matter was rough, this is a great book.  Trigger Warnings:  Child Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Suicide, Rape.
