This one was a little too high stakes for me – both men routinely put the kids above themselves and each other which is good irl but it made for a constant tension that compounded the already heavy romance-typical ("what if he doesn't love me back") tension. Behind all that tension, I really loved both characters and their personal journeys – grieving, parenting, asking for help, standing up for each other – but at times it just tipped into a little too much emotional strain for me personally.
That being said, a demisexual main was an extremely pleasant surprise, and having a non-ace partner validate and support him throughout made me far too emotional to maintain any type of objectivity in this review.
