Going into hiding, trying to stay hidden, and make sure the Irish mob didn’t find her, that was the type of life Keira McKeena found herself in for the longest time. When she was finally going to have some peace, freedom due to her father’s testimony against the Irish King mob, Keira’s life was going to change, but also with her meeting a certain detective by the name of, Archer Reynolds. This story had romantic suspense, danger, some action, a highly trained and handsome group of brothers who owned a security company together, a protective male lead, a feisty and sassy female lead, spice, and a romance that blossomed between Keira and Archer from the moment they met again years later.
I have been wanting to start this series for the longest time! After discovering Dr. Rebecca Sharp’s account on TikTok, I was immediately convinced I had to read her book! This first book focused on Archer and Keira. Keira and Archer met years prior when Archer was tasked with protecting Keira in the midst of her father testifying against the Irish King mob, in which he use to be an enforcer for the mob. With the testimony from Keira’s father, it gave them the chance to finally put the bad guys behind bars, and get a new fresh start. Archer and Keira had always shared an attraction towards one another, but with Archer being bound to his duty of his job, and Keira being younger than him (Keira was nineteen when they met), Archer was conflicted about Keira. Keira on the other hand had always found Archer to be gorgeous, intelligent, and wondered what it would be like to kiss him. In the end, Archer and Keira shared a kiss, Keira’s father gave his testimony, and it seemed like Keira and her father would get the new start they wanted…or so it seemed.
With the way the prologue started, it set up the story nicely. From seeing the brief past, to introducing the characters, and inevitably Archer coming face to face with Keira years later, it was great to read. I really liked that the story was set in a small town because, HELLO! I love small towns! I also loved the introduction of Archer’s other brothers, Gunner, Hunter, and Ranger. Even from the beginning, I was already getting excited for the rest of the books, and I have a feeling when I get to Ranger’s book, I’m going to absolutely LOVE IT! Right off the bat, if you love reading romantic suspense, or male characters who are protective, and the story involves some sort of danger, I feel like you’ll enjoy reading this series. Reading this first book has me already wanting to order the rest of the books to read as soon as possible!
I literally can’t get over how much I adored Archer and his brothers! Archer was a great lead in this story seeing him get all hot and bothered over Keira, but seeing him Lowkey get jealous, protective over Keira when one of his brothers teased him like, Gunner usually did had me giggling at their interactions. Again, I would like to take this moment again to say how much I already loved Ranger with his highly specific statistics about facts, being kind of socially awkward, and yet I really liked him! Hunter was similar to Archer in that they acted and approached things similarly, but also seeing how Hunter got over Zoey had me wanting to know what would happen with them!!! Gunner was the playboy and a bit of a troublemaker within his brothers, and often times pushed Archer’s buttons to tease and play around with him. Despite danger lurking in the background, there was still time for me to have some laughs and enjoy the close knit bond Archer and his brothers had together.
Ok, now I know I’ve mainly been talking about the book overall and other characters, but let’s talk about the romance between Keira and Archer! THE TENSION BETWEEN KEIRA AND ARCHER WAS GOOOOD! After a few years of not seeing each other (and other reasons why they didn’t see each other) Archer and Keira had sizzling chemistry and it was clear that they never got over each other. Majority of the book showed Archer being all grumpy and growly whenever anyone tried to flirt or get near Keira, but also his protective tendencies towards Keira were always on high alert so, I very much loved seeing all that! As much as Keira tried to go about her days running her tattoo shop, with Archer always being nearby, she was reminded of all the things she still felt for him, and desperately wanted more from him. In other words, with all the pining, stolen kisses, and past shared between Keira and Archer, it created a tantalizing sensation that left me wanting more for them!
Danger and suspense was lurking around, but even that couldn’t stop Keira and Archer from getting their shot at being together! With so much between Keira and Archer, both of them living in the same small town, after years being apart, and Archer believing Keira was killed in front of him was a bit of a tumultuous thing. Nonetheless, Keira and Archer found their way back to each other, and the passionate feelings they had for each other grew even stronger throughout the story. I absolutely loved seeing Archer and Keira finally get their shot at being together because, even when they first met, you could see the longing and desire to be with each other, but the circumstances back then prevented them from starting anything officially. Archer was still his protective self, wanting to make sure Keira was safe at all times, but Keira was also quick to remind Archer that as much as she understood his need to save her, she didn’t want to feel caged or left out from knowing what was happening around her. Archer and Keira truly cared deeply about each other and it was evident through the way they spent time together, gradually opened up about their pasts, secrets, and truths.
I will always be a sucker for romance, and of course, spice haha. The spice in this book was written perfectly especially with the way Archer and Keira matched each other at the same level despite Keira being inexperienced. Keira might not have had the most experience when it came to sex, but she was intimately in sync with Archer when it came to their spicy scenes like, omg! Meanwhile, Archer was a man unhinged when it came to Keira, wanting all of her, to consume her, drive her wild with desire, and mark her in all the primal ways he could. All I gotta say is, Archer was possessive and obsessed with Keira to the point that he LITERALLY TATTOOED THE BITE MARK HE GAVE KEIRA ON HER NECK! OMG! Basically, it was all hot, sexy, passionate, and deep between Keira and Archer! As a reader, reading what went down, I was blushing and gasping at the things Keira and Archer said and did to one another! The chemistry was without question clear as day and burning hot all the time! Mostly Archer though because, that man was crystal clear in all the things in vivid detail in what he wanted to do to Keira!
Overall, this was a great start to the series! Archer and Keira had met under dangerous circumstances which led to Keira faking her death, and Archer believing she gone this whole time. Thankfully, Keira was still very much alive, and found her way to Archer’s small town where they had a chance to be finally be together. I loved the close knit family of the Reynolds! They were funny, sweet, strong, charming, and I’m very much looking forward to reading the rest of the books for each individual brother! Again, I’m most looking forward to Ranger’s book! Keira was strong in her own right from having to survive constantly being on the run from the Irish mob. Thankfully, Keira eventually found her peace and happiness with Archer and his family, but more importantly also remained steadfast in her independence and determination. Archer was super protective, kind of possessive, and obsessed with Keira and I was here for it! Together, Archer and Keira’s chemistry was palpable throughout the story, had their moments of spicy times, and managed to overcome danger that thwarted Keira’s safety. Despite the danger that ensued towards the end and it had me on edge and worried out of my mind for Keira! The story ended on a much happier note, and the epilogue furthered highlighted a happy ending for Archer and Keira! Aww! Truly happy I read this book, and I’m looking forward to reading more books by Dr. Rebecca Sharp!
