I really enjoy Simone St. James's books. I like the paranormal element to them and the little romances are always adorable. This one was really good. I liked how we got some of Beth's pov in both the 70s and present timeline because I think it showed her growth as a person and how the murder trial impacted her. I think a chapter in Lily's pov would've been interesting. I didn't anticipate it being Lily but I knew immediately that Beth had to be covering up for someone. I don't have much to say about Shea. Beth was really the star of the book for me. Overall, I liked it just fine.

Listen, I love it when mysteries lean in on paranormal. This was chilling and enthralling and I couldn’t get enough! For a while I wasn’t sure if it was the typical psychological horror trope of “real or not,” but either way I enjoyed where the story was going.

The author wrote a very self aware novel, and I think that while it has mass appeal to the true crime crowd, it’s unique enough to stand out. I personally am not a fan of actual true crime, but this is a perfect fit for the vibe without the real life tragedy.

This author has really hit home run books for me, so I’ll definitely be back for more!
