This novella is the introduction to a fantasy world created by the fall of angels. In a mining town, where they are mining divinity from the body of a fallen angel, lawlessness abounds. The divine and the demonic meet to enjoy all the seedier aspects of life. When Celeste, who works in a casino as a croupier, finds her sister arrested on suspicion of murder, she sets out to discover the corruption that seethes beneath the already lawless town. This is wonderful.

Wow! What a thrilling fantasy read! After the really confusing start, I was hooked. There are plenty of unlikeable characters, but somehow, I came to emphasize with them. The writing and world building are incredible.

I listened to this on audio, and I have to say this narrator is one of the best I've listened to. I particularly enjoyed it when he didn't turn into a chipmunk when I cranked up the speed.

I'm definitely looking forward to more from both the author and narrator.

A great pseudo-mystery with strong and detailed characters and an immersive world. The protagonist is not really heroic though she is relatable for most of the book. My biggest complaint is that this book is so short. The world that is constructed is excellent and I wish more was done with it. The shortness of the book also makes some of the finale feel rushed. Despite this, it is an entrancing book that would be great for a single sitting read.

This was really good! I'm slightly confused by the pretty low ratings. Really good as an audiobook too
