I enjoyed this book. It was a quick and easy read.
The language of the prose was rather simple, not too lyrical or filled with lots of descriptions, which meant it was rather direct. I enjoyed this style, but reading his after Open Water made me feel rather detached from the characters.
The themes in his book can get quite heavy, but they were definitely what I enjoyed the most about it. There is a lot of discussion on what greed does to people, what tradition and superstition can do to a community and a lot of women empowerment. Sally Gardner really gets you thinking about the importance of listening to those who have been hurt and speaking out against those who have hurt them.

I read this in one sitting, driven by curiosity for how it would end. I enjoyed the writing style quite a lot, and I found the character arcs mostly satisfying and interesting to follow. Not a huge fan of the main pairing if I must be honest but I did love all the side characters' stories, watching how they grew and changed.
