Two couple come together for the purpose of having a "civilized discussion" about an act of violence that occurred between their sons. But what, finally, is "civilization"? Is it a mere sham? Or, although real, does it carry us away from our natural human impulses? Does civilization resolve anything in the end?
How does the behavior of "grownups" differ from the rough schoolyard savagery of children? Are they the same? And do the formalities of the former merely disguise the brutality of the latter?
A very depressing play. One that I'm unsure whether I'd want to see, let alone perform in. I dunno. Depends on my mood, I guess.
If you go to see this play, my advice is that you not sit in the front row, unless you're one of those hardy or masochistic souls who'd be front and center at a Gallagher show and who'd like to be spattered with bits of exploded melon. Only in this case, it'd be puke. Probably fake puke, unless the actress who plays Annette is gastrically super-talented.

I would love to see this on the stage because the mix of absolute chaos interlaced with mundane niceties and the flip-flopping alliances was so funny. Also, I kind of loved the whole rant close to the end about how children can sometimes just be the worst.

Just fundamentally disagree with a lot of the philosophy presented in this play; notably that human beings are inherently violent and destructive and it isn't cultural forces that make it so. The characters are detestable, which is fine sometimes, but when I fundamentally disagree with what the play is putting forward it makes it hard to get through. Also a lot of extremely racist comments from the characters that make this a miss for me.
Graphic: Racism and Vomit
Moderate: Violence

I'm quite curious to see how the vomiting trick be done, also I'm desperate to read this aloud in a group. The kind of play I didn't really like but I want to learn!!
Also, thanks for the baking tips. I want to make an Apple-and-pear clafoutis now

SPETTACOLARE.
