Two of my favorite creators joining together to create this novelization of the movie is just--*chef kiss* Guillermo del Toro's world with Cornelia Funke's writing--and the artwork! Just...oh my god. The only nitpick I have is that Funke wrote that the bottle broke during That Scene, where del Toro specifically mentions in interviews (and it's seen in the movie itself) that the bottle didn't break.

Unnecessarily gruesome. Not YA.
Only good thing is the ending of Ofelia's story.
The mix of child's sort of innocent viewpoint with horror and gore did not work for me at all. No idea what the target audience/age demographic is supposed to be.
Cannot recommen.

While I really enjoyed this book, because it was indeed a very exciting anf yet easy read, I do not think that it is actually suited for the targeted age group.
