Wow. Hits a bit too close to home for something originally written in 1985. The world Margaret Atwood creates is vivid and appalling. I watched the Hulu series a few years ago and from what I can remember, the series follows the book very closely. What a strange book, but a must read!!

Disturbing. Commander’s house had an interesting parallel with the nature of the plot- male dominated yet woman initiated infliction. No protagonist- almost anti-hero

This was the assigned reading for my college Freshman literature class. It left me feeling unsettled in my own skin, which I think was the point of the novel. So while I really didn't enjoy the story at all and will most likely never read it again in my life (or watch the TV show), I can appreciate that it did leave me thinking.
