5 - It's "The Headmistress" with switched POV. Some events are changed to reflect the different protagonist. So we can experience Magdalenes machinations first hand, which where much more "behind the scenes" in the first book. Especially her inner workings are brought to light and the reader gets a much deeper understanding of her motivations and experiences.
If you loved "The Headmistress" go for "Magdalene Nox". If you merely liked it, this maybe not for you.

Perhaps I should not have read this immediately following The Headmistress. I thought that it would be helpful to have the story fresh in my mind, but it felt quite repetitive.
Unlike many books that are retellings from a different POV, for whatever reason this one felt like it covered the exact same conversations more often. It didn’t feel as additive as I would have expected.
that said, it still was well written, and overall a good story.

There was a lot of repetition from Book 1. The new info was very enjoyable though and the writer's style is lovely as always.

Absolutely perfect, just as expected. This series will always hold a most cherished place in my heart. Milena McKay is the undeniable queen of sapphic books, she manages to masterfully put into words so much of what I feel every time.
