Slow moving but easy read. Witchy, whimsical. Heavy in history/references. Forbidden love. Cozy, atmospheric.
Problematic relationship = Twilight for adults. Less problematic, intriguing mystery, better characters. Some Lifetime Christmas movie troupes: “independent successful career woman ignoring her true self until the right man comes along…” Except that man is a possessive and violent vampire. But it’s okay cuz vampires are natural predators?
Ending a bit rushed and message convoluted but interesting. Left feeling conflicted yet genuinely entertained.

Omg I absolutely ADORED this book! The first night I started reading it I finally tore myself away at 3 AM, but I could’ve kept reading. The fantasy coupled with modern times makes it a page turner. Not to mention the passion felt between the characters as they all grew closer towards a common goal. Can’t wait to start the next one!

Five things about A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness 📚📚📚📚
1. This was a reread and I thought I loved it more than I actually do. 😂🤷🏻♀️
2. I still love the premise.
3. I still love the burgeoning romance.
4. I still love the backstory stuff of all the billions of characters.
5. But, wow, this book needed a better editor. It’s actually kind of a hot mess. An endearing hot mess though.

watched the first season of this show years ago so i wanted to read this bc i had no idea when the next season would come out, yet i haven't continued the show and i doubt i'll continue the books. no problem with the book or the writing, stories like this just aren't my interest anymore

I'm not sure why people in the comments section were ragging on this book so hard. They've compared it to Twilight, saying it's worse than that, and that it's garbage. From a former hard-core Twilight fan: this book is NOT the crap people have said it is. The details and descriptions are intricate and fascinating. The characters are ones you can sympathize with and root for. I happened to start the series right as the tv show adaptation aired! I'm excited to start book 2 :)
