I find myself a bit disappointed by this book. Partly that’s my own fault: I began the book expecting a gothic-inspired horror story, rather than what it is, a series of character examinations with some minor mystery. Perry’s description of setting is evocative - at turns beautiful, playful, and haunting. But the plot I felt left something to be desired. The conclusion of the mystery of Eadwacer unraveled like a Scooby-Doo mystery. The book ultimately feels hazy, like a dream in which you can’t open your eyes all the way, and you only half-remember when you wake up.
