I'm reading such an interesting mix of books this year, and it has to do with recently moving and realizing that there are books I've had for almost 20 years that I still haven't read. I made a promise to myself that I was going to make a real effort this year to read those books and purge as needed so I don't have to move them again. This series will be some of the books I give away, I'm just not sure if I will bother reading the second book yet.

Not really my cup of tea but thinking of it as a dystopia helped. Confirms that I would have no interest at all in the 50 Shades of Grey books either.

My butt cheeks hurt just from reading this.

I went in expecting a BDSM dark romance retelling of Sleeping Beauty, but what I got was a tedious 200 pages of people getting beaten black and blue with only a crumb of consent. I have read multiple romances with dubious consent and CNC and enjoyed them, but this was straight up gross.

It's also really boring.

I think Anne missed the memo that erotica should actually be erotic?! A strange concept, I know.

If it wasn’t for #garbaugust - I would not have listened to this audio book. That poor narrator.

I had a hard time getting into her narration style and just got to the point where I was feeling obligated to keep reading vs wanting too and there are too many books on the tbr for that. Not in relation to my DNF decision, this book has a lot of heavy tw.

I first read this series a long time ago. It is not for the easily offended. You really need to read all 4 books to get the whole story.

I first read The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty in my early 20s, and it was my first erotica book. I was not prepared in the least. For someone who only read horror and thrillers, this was uncharted territory. Now that I am double that age and well-versed in life and all things kink, this was not nearly as shocking. It actually took me a few days to get through because it was pretty repetitive.

The story is an erotic retelling of Sleeping Beauty. She was enchanted for 100 years only to be awakened, not by a kiss but by sexual initiation. As a reward, the Prince got Beauty’s complete and total enslavement to him and those in his kingdom.

I didn’t love it, but I also didn’t hate it. I’m just sort of ehhh.  I love that Anne Rice always writes her characters very fluid. It’s not your typical Male/Female relationship. I will eventually dive into the other books in the series to see how they are. I don’t remember much about them.

Oh boy...what to say about this book....

I decided to read this story because I was curious as to what it was all about. Trust me, 50 Shades of Grey is nothing compared to this so called "retelling" of Sleeping Beauty. The characters are one dimensional and there is nothing in the story except sex, cruelty, pain and depravity. I found myself skimming a lot of the pages, because I couldn't bear some of the actions that were being described and I was getting bored with the book. The story got very repetitive and very tedious quickly. I doubt I will read the rest of the trilogy, I am no prude but this book just isn't for me.
