I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't as dark as I was expecting though. The romance anyway. What made this book not five stars though was a few oddities I noticed.
One of them was near the end, River says I love you to Theo in a text and they talk about it after. Theo says river's never said it before. But that's not true? He said it in a previous chapter so that was very weird. Then Theo's knowledge was inconsistent. He didn't go to school, can't read, is unfamiliar with many things in the world but one meeting with War he's able to tell and identify he was OCD? Doesn't make sense.

I'm going to rate this at 2.5 stars for now but it might go up to a 3 star rating later. I'm on the fence about this one. I am intrigued to see where the story goes. The queer representation is out of this world but it has several dark themes. I liked the characters and the crime family/funeral home setting.

I'll probably read the next one but I wasn't overly wowed by this first book. The romance was pretty meh and I couldn't help but keep comparing it to another series featuring a family of psychopath vigilantes and wishing it was more.
