Another teary-eyed while reading. I can't help it, honestly. It was a good picture of self-control and how self-proclamation can break a person.

I know I’m late with this one, but What a masterpiece! I got lost in this book. In the history of Afghanistan, in the beautiful descriptions, and in the heartbreaking story between two young boys. One of the best reads of 2023 for me. I can’t wait to read more of this author’s books.

Sad enough to be unpleasant, but I didn’t get into it enough to cry. Now I have to find out what the pomegranate tree symbolizes for English class. Wish me luck.

I'd heard so many things about this book, but I've resisted reading it for a while. I've seen the movie, so I knew what to expect, and honestly wasn't all that excited to read it - but decided to give it a try.

Overall, it's well written. The author has a good knack for storytelling, and it was also set in a place and in a culture that I'm completely unfamiliar with, so in that sense, it was an enjoyable read. And in the end, the message to be learned was profound. So why didn't I love the book? I'm not exactly sure. Maybe I just didn't connect with the characters. Amir was quite disgusting, in my opinion, regarding his character and morals. Yes, I realize it was a product of his culture and upbringing, but still, I disliked him immensely. On the other hand, I did like Hassan, yet he seemed to be dealt nothing but hard blows in his life. I guess that's all part of the lesson to be learned. Regardless -- this book was good, just not great.
