If Dan Brown and Alice Hoffman decided to write a book together, it would be this book. Nothing unique, but entirely readable. A good commute audio selection.

The plot was the guilty pleasure I enjoy: mystery of a literary/academic nature. The historic plots were engaging and not over-powering the A-storyline. Semele was a sympathetic character (although her poor treatment of her fiancé was baffling to me.) The prose itself was not beautifully crafted but is definitely serviceable -- there were some very bumpy phrases and sentences, however, and I'd say that is an editorial issue. That and the repeated misspelling of the word "judgment" were jarring and made me wish someone with a stronger hand had guided the author in final print preparation.
This book was amazing! Words can't describe how much I ended up loving this book. Confession: I bought this book because the cover was gorgeous. I'm so glad that it was just as beautiful on the inside. This book was really intriguing and I was hooked from page one. I recommend this to anyone who wants a nice relaxing read.
3.5 Stars
I was captivated from the beginning, however it think it started out to strong and I found my self kinda bored in the middle.
I was interested enough to finish and overall enjoyed the concept. I found reading the book in longer sections was more beneficial than a chapter at a time, since the chapters alternated between many time frames and brief descriptions of many other characters. It appreciated the idea of all these additional stories but they the brevity made things feel a little choppy.

Major book hangover happening here! This story had me under its spell from the first page to the last, and I already miss the characters so much. Gwendolyn Womack is a natural storyteller! I highly recommend The Fortune Teller.

This was one of the best books I've ever read. I'm a history nerd and this was amazing!
This was a Cedarburg Book Club selection
This is a book I wouldn't have selected on my own - I think the title would have held me back,
This is a book that shares snippets of history over time.
It's about librarians and archivists, what's not to love?

Intelligent and suspenseful, this intriguing novel was filled with literary mystery and labyrinthine twists. There were historical references aplenty as well as an abundance of morally grey characters. The story would make an exciting movie with plenty of gorgeous locales to boot! A bibliophile’s swoon-worthy adventure, this one is highly recommended.
