Some people have described this book as the Egyptian Percy Jackson, and I disagree. The story of Carter and Sadie are so very different. I loved the relationship between the siblings. They have basically been separated most of their lives and then forced on the run to save the world, recruit, and train new magicians. All while having to learn and teach themselves. Carter and Sadie are so smart and funny. I loved their banter throughout the book. This book tackled a few serious topics as well. The biggest con for me was that this book was so long. There were a ton of information.

I thought I would love this because it's a Rick Riordan book, and I've been fascinated by ancient Egypt for a long time. But this book was kind of disappointing.
It felt way too long and I had a hard time getting into it. The world building was.. I don't know, lacking? Confusing? Also, the narration alternates between Carter and Sadie and I could never remember whose chapter I was in; their voices were not distinctive enough. I've never had that problem with a Rick Riordan book before, so I don't know what happened here.
I will be continuing with the series, so hopefully it picks up. But overall, I think it lacks a lot of the charm and fun of the PJO and HOO series.
