This volume is an all new story set fairly early in the Honorverse series. Honor is contacted by her mother that her uncle is missing on the pleasure station Eros. Uncle Jacques is trying to find out more about the genetically modified sex slaves and might be working with the Audubon Ballroom in order to free them. Using some personal leave while her ship is in for repairs, she goes to Eros with Scotty and Harkness tagging along after she asked Harkness to do some illegal computer work for her to find out more about Eros.
Of course she can’t go anywhere without being known as the hero of Basilisk Station and it makes her snooping around a bit harder. Of course everything falls into place about finding her Uncle and everything coming out ok for our heroes. An ok read but it didn’t feel much like an Honor Harrington story to me. I’ll stick with it for a bit longer to see if the next collection is more to my taste.
