Another book I love by Julia Wolf! I think this was a great start to a new series. I’ve been interested in Beckett and Luciana since we met them in her other books, and I was really excited to be able to read about them. Getting to see their first meeting from each POV was great. Go read this book!

i feel like i used to like this stuff but for some reason it's not clicking for me, there's no spark or real character there for either, it feels empty

This academy romance begins with enemies to lovers and quickly moves into opposites attract ya romance; however, as it progresses, it becomes more NA. Luciana and Beckett are a wonderful couple, but the sweet male character isn't what I was expecting. I love that he was soft to her, but I expected a little longer before the relationship and romance began. Luciana may be broken by her past, but she is a formidable female character. I love the inclusion of different sports; the book follows them through more than just high school. Overall, this was a great read.

The story begins with her in middle school and quickly introduces Luciana. More back history on her would be excellent, but I picked enough to know she is strong, intelligent, and sassy. Beckett seems to be her nemesis, as they have had a few encounters but don't get along. Luciana's friendship with her teammates and roommates at Savage Academy is endearing.

Beckett goes to Savage Academy as well and is just down the hall. He and his buddies are interesting. I need to find out if they rule the school or are just the pompous boys. He is very focused on Luciana. I'm still determining what sport he is in, but she plays field hockey. Oh, apparently, Beckett plays soccer.

This may be enemies to lovers, but Beckett is acting like anything but that. I can see where history leads in that direction, but his hard outer shell turns off when Luciana is important to him. As for her, I don't blame her at all for being confused. This poor boy is a whiplash waiting to happen.

This story gets steamy as their relationship develops more in NA territory than YA. I love the ups and downs of the relationship as they both discover they are broken people but strive to be way more than they are now.
The story takes on a more lovers' side most of the way through the book, and the enemy's part disappears. However, despite their opposites and sports, they complete each other. Beckett and Luciana are a lovely couple moving through the end of high school onto adulthood and into new roles as they age and grow up.

I enjoyed this book's epilogues even though the male main character got sappy quickly. I wish he maintained his hardened exterior a little longer. But Luciana brought him to his knees and turned this stubborn man around. I love the playlist at the end of the book.

Admittedly I was a bit wary when I realised this was a high school romance but once I clocked that they were 18 for all the steamy parts I was okay haha

I love a sports romance where both MCs are athletes! Its also a kind of grumpy x sunshine dynamic with Luciana being the sunshine, good mood gal and Beckett being a bit grumpy. And the obsession from Beckett??? Chef's kiss!! I really enjoyed seeing their interactions and then romance develop over time and the writing was just so good! The pacing was nice, it was easy to read and understand the whole time. It did get a bit much for me with the insecurities showing in some moments but I reminded myself that these characters were still so young and I could get over it.

Overall such an enjoyable read and I would recommend to anyone who enjoys angst, a lil steaminess and a well-paced story.

Honestly, I think my expectations were too high going into this and that is totally my fault. It was in no way, shape or form a bad book but I wanted something more. I am really curious about Evelyn and will continue the series.

Trigger warnings:
- Male Sexual Assult
-Drug Abuse in Relation to a Parent

I enjoyed this book! :)

Beckett + Luci had great communication and buildup (which I love in a book) and the side characters were really intriguing as well!

I love that Beckett + Luci’s friend groups were supportive of them as people. They both had great groups of friends (minus Charles)!

I do wish that their relationship would’ve progressed at a slower rate though. It felt too fast for me at times and I wanted to see them on more dates and things!

I also wasn’t a huge fan of Freddie’s characterization. There were times where it felt almost stereotypical (the girls making out with him). ://

I am excited to explore the other characters’ stories! :)
