I enjoyed this book but definitely not as much as the first one. Tbh I was a little disappointed by the ending, but Joe Jameson knocked the audio performance out of the park, as expected.

Sequel to boyfriend material and not worth it to me, this was 2.75 star.  For the first 3/4 of the book it dragged and was difficult for me to care much.  It continues the story of opposites attract sweet but complex characters stumbling along trying to make it work, however we have fallen into the humdrum life of a settled couple which is not particularly exciting to read about.  The author tried to spice this up with manufactured drama of a friends fiancé possibly cheating and the re-introduction of an ex, but it was not very believable or interesting.  The messiness of the characters and the banter that was funny and interesting in the first book was overdone and boring in this one.  It only started to pick up in the last 1/4, where some real issues and complexities to the characters emerged dealing with grief, eating disorder, family relationships and personal struggles and character growth.  I think the author missed the opportunity to take these flawed characters and really look more in depth into their character and relationship development between the two especially as they had it all set up with the therapist mentioned.  Also I hated and predicted the ending.

A special thanks to Sourcebooks for sending me this ARC got an honest review!

After finishing Boyfriend Material I had such high hopes for this one, but it just didn't hit the mark for me. It wasn't the book I expected, at all.

My feelings for this book were all over the place. I love Luc and Oliver and their banter. I hated the the whole "right way to be gay" argument that kept happening. It felt like there were too many unnecessary things added in that made the plot drag at times.

That being said..... I am looking for the next installment in this series and whatever Alexis Hall comes out with next.

The way Hall writes in this universe is so funny and endearing. It's somehow wholesome in a sarcastic and pessimistic kind of way. I love these two together and I'm definitely into a post-getting-together plot on an established couple figuring out themselves and their relationship. Compared to the first book, this one doesn't wrap up as neatly and it felt like there were some loose threads. I'm excited to read the other two books Hall has planned set in this universe (especially the one about Tyler).
