there's not much to say that hasn't already been said, but I will say that the audiobook was fantastic and the narrator kept me completely engaged with her performance!
also, this marks my 100th book read on goodreads! if you told me over a year ago that i would’ve read 100 books in a little over a year i never would’ve believed you :)

My god, what a tremendous book! I got the Audible version with the performance by Bahni Turpin, and she was just brilliant. Every character's voice was distinctive, and she brought all the emotion to them.
I'd love for this book to become required reading in high schools. It's going to take some brave teachers and school boards to stand up to puritan communities to get there, but this is so worth it for the perspective it could bring to our children. Please go get a copy of this and read it now!

I really really really loved this book. The hype surrounding it very much earned and I see why it's such a powerful and relevant book for people. It's important for stories like this to be told because it's what's happening in the world today and I think if people dislike this book for telling that kind of story then I'm not sure what to say because it's real. The book may be a work of fiction but the nature of it is reality. The characters are well written and fully realized, the atmosphere feels real and I feel like I'm there beside Starr while these things are happening. It's emotional and it is so real. My one complaint is a minor one and it doesn't affect how I view the story overall. It's amazing.

This should be taught in every high school right beside To Kill A Mockingbird.

“At the end of the day, you don’t kill someone for opening a car door. If you do, you shouldn’t be a cop.”
I’m incredibly grateful to Angie Thomas for writing this book and giving the perspective that many of us wouldn’t have otherwise.
