Uncle Rick never disappoints! I had always wanted to read the Kane Chronicles and I'm so glad I did!

This story is filled with adventures. Carter and Sadie are thrust into this world of Egyptian mythology and gods which they never thought was real. Yet they unexpectedly find themselves hosts of ancient gods and need to learn how to wield their power to prevent the world from falling into chaos. As if this wasn't difficult enough, they need to deal with so much loss. They're only teenagers yet they're going through so many things even adults might not know how to handle.

At the same time the story is so fun! Carter and Sadie infuse their personalities into their narration adding humor to the story even when they're put in trying situations. There are several battles, interdimensional travel, and magic. I also learned quite a bit about Egyptian mythology while reading this book. All around this book is a blast and I definitely plan on reading the rest of the series.

Good book. Interesting new series, somewhat like the Percy Jackson ones, but also very different. I love all mythology, including Egyptian, so it's fun to read stuff like this.

I don't know why I wasn't as into this book as I usually am with Rick Riordan's work. I was very easily distracted while listening to this story (I listened to the audiobook, I'm less distracted with audiobooks than I am with reading a book in general). I had a hard time connecting with these characters. Some parts of the story were interesting, but at times I felt like things that happened in the book weren't convincing to me. Authors of fantasy have to take their audience to a certain level in order to convince readers certain things are plausible. Had to force myself to get to that point in some parts. I just shrugged and went with it. Obviously there will be further trouble for Carter and Sadie in the books ahead, I just won't be in a rush to get to the next books.
