I was happy Ian Malcolm was more a main character in this one and enjoyed most of the cast! Levine was annoying to me though so the ending left me a little unsatisfied. I thought the story was entertaining overall and had some good moments, like the many raptor scenes and the Carnotaurus scene. The suspense was good too, but while the first book had it back to back where I couldn’t put it down, there were too many gaps in-between in this one that made me lose interest.

I loved this. Let’s up the brutal killings, the thrills, make an even more badass female character, and get the writing of it all tuned in a bit more than Jurassic Park. Felt different from the movie than the first book, and I think that helped me enjoy this book even more. Sneak in some societal critiques on the World Wide Web that could fit today’s social media, and this book just delivered, I don’t know what to tell the people that didn’t enjoy it. Sometimes it’s good to read a book that’s fun, lower your expectations and just see what happens.

Overall, I think the movie is *far* better. The first 2/3 of the novel are pretty boring & aimless, so the movie is better there. And Malcolm is a completely different character than in the first book and has zero motivations to be involved in any of this. It would be 2 stars, but the 3rd act of the novel is better than the movie's, so...idk, man lol.
There's just too much science jargon in the first 2/3 that feels totally unnatural. Like, nobody talks like that in real life; especially where/when the literal lectures occur. And the plot takes forever to get going, with Dodgson's parts feeling tacked on and pointless. The whole thing just feels uninspired.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as Jurassic Park, unfortunately. The plot here was much more nebulous, which led to a lot of tension without a lot of payoff. The action wasn't driven forward in the same way, and the questions weren't as interesting. All in all, a bit of a let down, though I did enjoy the character of Sarah Harding and the two kids, Kelly and Arby—it was refreshing to have different personalities playing off of Ian Malcolm and Richard Levine (two very esoteric characters).

I re-read this book (and the first book) over the weekend, after having watched the original three movies. I like reading them to see the differences between the books and the movies, and this one has the biggest differences. It's funny, because this was basically written so that they could do a second movie, and yet the movie is almost nothing like it. (I prefer the book.) On the other hand, the lack of female characters (besides one woman and one child, AGAIN, just like the first book) is very noticeable and a bit irritating.
