Honestly? For a book that was so meant to be so amazing, it bored me. I read halfway and put it down. The same constant use of sex and women talking about their sexuality and the morality associated with it as a means of unsettling others just gets repetitive and boring at a point.
An element was missing from animal, and I can’t put my finger on what it was. Maybe it’s not the right book for me, but personally i can’t help but think that it could have been written much better overall.

earlier i compared this book to "promising young woman" and i feel very sorry because that's very hurtful and low and animal does not deserve that. animal introduces another grotesque female character into the lovely universe of "unlikeable" women-Joan! joan is very weird! and offputting! taddeo's prose is impeccable at times (she got me). yet i felt that the phrase "i am depraved" was overused and it eventually became annoying. we get it. we can tell. it has been quite a bit since i finished this and i can only recall glimpses of this book, which is pretty sad but also means that this wasn't a book that my brain demanded remembrance of.
it was better than promising young woman. much better. maybe that's something.

The story itself was fun but the writing wasn’t my favorite. To me it was like a man trying to write female rage, maybe that was the point? Idk just wasnt crazy about it
