So glad I finally got a chance to read this! I loved everything about this story...solidly written. The scenes between Alice and Julia were so poignant and lovely. I love how Hannah’s books are all so unique in their characters and story. Just a really great book.

I have a headache from all the eye rolling. How is this the same author as The Nightingale? This read like a Hallmark Movie. I kept thinking that this couldn't be as predictable as it was, but no, and also completely unbelievable. Truth be told, 14 year old me would have probably loved it, but I loved a lot of questionable things back then.

So, we have our disgraced psychologist, Julia, who comes back to her small town, where she never really fit in, to help her sister (a former homecoming queen now a police chief) with a child that was found in a tree who seems ferrel. Not only does she try to help her, but is able to be her foster parent (in hours... not, how many months does it usually take?) Meanwhile, there's another doctor in town who must be running from something because why else would he be there, who is drawn into the depth that is Julia. And as if your gag reflex hasn't been triggered yet, people are giving each other so many looks that convey so much meaning, why even bother with dialogue at this point?

This is NOT a psychological thriller, this is a trite, badly written, romance with an unbelievable side plot involved in the rehabilitation of a child.

If I could give this book a million stars I would. I didn't want to put it down. This is a doozy of a story and so well written I felt like I was sitting on their couch watching all this transpire. A must read for any Kristen Hannah fans or anyone that needs to get lost in a great novel.

I read this book once before several years ago but didn’t remember most of it. Not my favorite book by this author.

I don't have some long winded explanation on why I didn't like this book. I just really DIDN'T. I was so bored, and it was so incredibly slow. Ugh. I've loved Kristin Hannah in the past. Not this one.
