On the one hand, you have the first too-convenient kinda-dumb overly-lucky assault against the Yeerk, but in the same book you have the somehow-believable and tragic story of Tobias learning to accept his new life.

This is an interesting one. it's told from the point of view of Tobias. Who is stuck in the body of a red tailed hawk. SO how he wrote the story... Maybe Rachel transcribed it for him. It deals a lot more with animal nature and urges for obvious reasons, and is thus a bit lighter on the alien fighting. WHich I don't mind at all.

I knew this was going to be a tough one, considering what we learned about Tobias' upbringing in book 1, but wow was this kid dealt all the wrong hands in life. All he seems to experience is loss, but he somehow manages to continue to be brave and selfless through it all. Definitely my favorite installment so far, and if my boy Tobias doesn't get the ending he deserves I'm cyberbullying the Applegates- even though this series ended over 20 years ago.
