i first read this last year september and i remember loving it a lot. so a year and a couple months later, i was craving to read some REAL enemies to lovers, of course peter darling came to mind. i asked my buddy to read it with me and we did!

peter darling is such a great book, very intense and somewhat unique! the story moves at a good pace and you won't get bored. the fighting scenes are top tier, and the dialogue? amazing. even the humor gave. the writing? clear, natural and expressive. ANGST? OH, IT’S THERE! LOUD AND CLEAR. peter, ernest and tinker are my favourites! the bickering between peter and ernest has me gagging fr.

i havent watched the peter pan movies/animation or read any of the (original) stories, (i only knew that there are characters peter pan, tinker bell & captain hook and theres a world called neverland where u don’t grow up… i never was interested to watch it), so basically i didnt know who the characters really were - obviously they're different in the retelling, since og peter pan isn't a bad guy (at all) but honestly? i prefer him in this book… i love villains/morally greys/peoplewhowanttofightallthetime, okay?

buddy read it with kau ♡

"I'm the spirit of youth and joy, remember?"
"You're a grown man and a nuisance."
“I’m your nuisance.”

Peter Pan retelling? Transgender main character? Peter and Hook romance? Woah…

Honestly, my feelings are so mixed on this one. It unpacks so many important real life issues and intriguing aspects of Neverland/the original characters, yet is only ~300 pages.

I saw someone say it feels like the beginning and the end of a 5⭐ read and I think that sums it up perfectly. I really wish it was longer , I feel slightly unsatisfied with the world building and romance, yet the writing, the style, and the depth was still incredible.

I’d still 100% recommend it to others since it is a short yet fascinating read, I just really wish there was more of a middle and fleshed out storyline.

a lot of the plot points felt underdeveloped, such as the existence of ernest and james's background. and the ending felt rushed. but definitely a cute read nonetheless

Excellent and unexpected. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't this. I loved the fairy tale quality of the writing.

This book was such a joy to read I got so swept up and read it all in one morning. I cried because of how seen as a trans person this narrative made me feel. I don’t know how to put it into words, but thank you for this book
