At this current moment? I have two words — emotional roller coaster.

Gypsy and Lucian are two misunderstood individuals who didn’t know what they were missing until they met each other. I’m a Zavarelli fan so I knew I would fall in love with these characters. I read this book without reading the blurb and it was honestly the best decision I made. This book wasn’t the steamiest but it made me feel things and automatically made me invested in the character which is a factor I love in all my reads. The characters had depth to them and I desperately wanted them to succeed

WOW

What a great story. Loved it from start to finish! I did feel it jumped a few times yet it was still beautifully written!

This book caused me a lot of anxiety. We start out with this strong h who has conned all these men and then this jerk comes along planning to fix her by bribing her, humiliating her, taking away all of her freedom and she’s just like “okay, you’re mean but you can spoon me every night.” Ew. No.

The story just gets worse from there. I almost quite reading the book at 33% but then I had a nightmare about the book so I had to finish reading it so I could forget it forever. I wish I hadn’t bothered, the book just got more ridiculous and unbelievable from that point on.

Lucian was preparing me for the world, trying to teach me all the things I never learned before he let me go. The problem was that now I was scared to fly. It terrified me more than anything, considering what my life would be like when things with him eventually came to an end. He told me he couldn’t love me, and I believed him. This wasn’t my fairy-tale ending, and I wasn’t deluded enough to even consider it, but it didn’t mean I was as good as protecting myself as he was.

If I don’t cry at least once during reading I truly did not like the book or grow attached to the characters. This was not the case in “Confess”. I cried probably in like every couple of chapters. I probably should have stopped reading because I was reading blurred words because of my tears. But I couldn’t stop reading. The relationship between Lucian and Gypsy isn’t a typical one but it’s one I started routing for. They’re both broken but together they learn to fix each other and support each other. Lucian has some messed up and non traditional ways of showing Gypsy he cares. If y’all haven’t read this book you NEED to! It’s so good.

Such a great book from beginning to end. I picked this up as a recommendation on Amazon and since it was free I thought why not but wow i didn’t expect to like this book right away. I love that we have a badass fmc who’s a con artist that steals from wealthy men to afford her luxurious lifestyle and be able to take care of her younger sister. Her backstory broke my heart and while it may not have been too graphic in detail, the picture it paints is one that makes you want to cry.

While waiting for her sister to arrive to their dinner reservation, we meet the mmc who she recognizes as a well known lawyer with a terrible rep of “letting criminals walk free”, when he as sitting across her table and gives her a file of collected evidence against her sister conning men (poorly as you can see lol). He’s been keeping tabs on the fmc and her cons for awhile and tells her that he has her sister and wants something in return. There we get the marriage of convenience trope when he gives her an ultimatum of marrying him or else he’ll send the file to the cops. It was interesting seeing that he wanted to marry her to see her do better with her life and funny how he took away her luxury clothes every time she cussed.

I loved their slow-burn and seeing them let down their walls for each other and fall in love mixing in some spice ;) The only criticism I have for the book was the plot twist.
Spoiler I was caught off guard by the sudden murder plot because it was never alluded to be heading in that direction so it felt off with the characters. Not to mention that the one trying to do the murdering turned out to be the mmc’s friend that we literally see once in the beginning of the story and is then never mentioned until this point of the plot. I would’ve been ok with this storyline had it been better planned out with the existing plot and properly executed.
