Fantastic, gripping story that will suck you in and make you want to read deep into the night. It’s intense and often humorous. It loses one star for being misogynistic; there are some moments when Light (the main character) disregards female characters, and one scene where he contemplates holding a woman down by force so she can’t reveal his secret.

Re reading the series for the first time since I was 14. Favorite characters are definitely still L and Ryuk. Love Ryuk’s fashion style. An icon. Honestly don’t care abt anyone else yet lol. But I’m enjoying it for the nostalgia.

Even though i watched the anime a thousand times (which is basically an exact copy of the manga minus Ryuk eating apples), i was sucked into this manga from beginning to end. The story of Deathnote is scary, Ryuk is horrifying and this book was the perfect first book of '22 for me!
