I love how the artist who is struggling with his art arrives at a new view! What great way to help kids realize that their best is good enough and their most amazing talents come from what they enjoy doing, not what they think they should do or how they should do it!

I liked the concept of this book and I really wanted to love it, I just think I would have liked it better if the idea had been expanded on a little more. I know, sometimes less is more, but in this case I was having to explain the main plot to my kid quite a bit, and go back in the book to reiterate the talking points. He may be a wee bit young to fully grasp it, he did like it though. So, sparse as it is, it didn't touch me quite as much as I was expecting it to. The fault may be with me of course, or maybe it was just a bit too ... ish?

A picturebook whose message might be needed by adults even more than children. Quite a grown-up book about the frustrations we place upon ourselves when we aim for something without appreciating our own unique take on things. Life shouldn’t be about fitting into a box, yet often we try to do exactly that. I hope we all live ‘ishly ever after’ too.

Drawing, art, this shows me it is all good! Plus the power of a mean comment, the power of a simple act of kindness. Love this book!

This is an encouraging little book. As a perfectionist who didn't realize she was one until her friends pointed it out to her at school one day, I totally understand the desire to make things look perfect. But it's important to know that ishly things are okay, too.

With wonderful illustrations and a highly relatable story this picture book will appeal to children of all ages, especially those who don't feel their artistic skills measure up to their peers.
"Thinking ish-ly allowed his ideas to flow freely." I particularly loved this message in the book- perfect for building self esteem among young children.
Works well as an audio book too (available on Epic)
