While I have enjoyed Dolly's music over the years, I have also always had an admiration for her as a person. She's always seemed like the type of celebrity who forged her own path. When I saw this audiobook available through my library I decided to give it a listen. And I was not disappointed.
Behind the Seams is an ode to Dolly. It's a celebration of her iconic sense of style and how she forged her own identity despite people continuously telling her to fit in. Structured like an interview, she shares personal stories of some of her most iconic outfits over the past six decades. There are also excerpts from friends, family and professionals who are part of the Dolly empire.
At times highly superficial, I was entertained listening to Dolly talk about her personal style. This is really a guidebook for forging your own path to beauty and confidence. I wish I could have half an ounce of the confidence Dolly day. Since I listened to the audiobook, I did miss out on the hundreds of photographs, which I suspect would have added to the fun of reading this book.
