This is the second book of theirs that has disappointed me. Makes me unsure if I’ll give The Breakdown a chance. Quite a bit of continuity errors and overall just hard to believe to the point of not being very memorable. Fast read though.

Didn’t love. So far fetched. Also, not much about a therapist.

Man, I was bored. It felt like it took forever to finish.

A suspenseful and enjoyable read even though the ending explanation was unrealistic.

Pissed at myself for not seeing the twist at the end coming in this one

Alice and her boyfriend Leo just bought a house in a quiet little gated neighborhood. Alice is excited to start her new life but isn’t too sure about her neighbors. They don’t see overly welcoming and aren’t particularly kind but Alice will do whatever she can to win them over. When she realizes her neighbors hesitancy upon her arrival is due to the murder that happened a year prior in her new home she is devastated. How could Leo not tell her about this. Now the murder is all she can think about and she knows she will be unable to rest until she figures out what exactly happened in her home.

The Therapist is 296 pages long and took me one day to read.

This book is so good! I’m giving it a 4 out of 5! It’s super creepy and makes you feel like you truly can’t trust any of the characters in the story. I enjoyed it so much!

Thank you, St. Martin’s Press, for sending me this copy!

Here’s to the adventure of finding a novel novel!

Alice has been dating her long distance boyfriend, Leo, for a while now and they want to take the leap and move in together. Leo goes and buys a house in a gated community in London that Alice cannot believe they can afford. He says the price was really low because it’s been on the market a long time. Alice decided to have a neighborhood party so that she and Leo can get to know their neighbors. A man shows up that Alice assumes is a neighbor, but realizes later that he is a stranger. He tells her that he is investigating a murder that took place in her house. Alice is shocked that Leo would buy this house without telling her what happened there. She quickly becomes obsessed with finding out more about the murder and helping this private investigator find out who really killed Nina.

This book was really similar to some others that I’ve read, but I still did not see that ending coming. I was constantly changing my mind about who the real killer was and I didn’t trust any of the characters, except Alice. The book was well written and fast paced. I couldn’t put it down! I am convinced that B. A. Paris can do no wrong when it comes to domestic suspense!

dark mysterious tense fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

Fast-paced thriller that I really enjoyed. Was questioning all of the characters - I knew something didn’t line up but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it - the twist/reveal was good but somehow I knew it was coming.

Alice, our main character, was soooo frustrating. No one, not one person, is this clueless. Made it hard to finish the book. She sucked.
