This picture book has detailed, charming illustrations and shows how two friends who like to do things in the same way react and then adapt to their new neighbor's contrasting eccentricities. It's a cute story with subtle humor, and I like how it models life lessons without being preachy about them.

This has always been one of my favourite children's books. As a child, I love it mostly for the very cute pictures. As an adult, I still appreciate the story for talking about trying new things and how different people might have new ways of doing the same things you do. It's a great message, and a fun book to read.

Very nice book with great illustrations. If my son were very set in his ways, it would be helpful to increase flexibility and tolerance.

As I read Chester's Way, I was reminded of Jim Roth's posit that we are each the average of the five people we spend the most time with. Chester has his way of doing things--an OCD-type of way. Chester's best friend, Wilson, is almost exactly the same in his temperament and his interests. But what happens when a new kid with her own way of living life moves into the neighborhood and--gasp!--tries to make friends with Chester and Wilson? Well, a little give and a little take.

A sweet picture book from a great author about finding your people and letting friendship make you better.

I love volunteering at the school library, because I find such wonderful books I missed as an elementary teacher, and missed when raising my own children, now adults.

Chester and his buddy Wilson COULD be tough to be friends with. They have their OWN way of doing everything...riding their bikes, cutting their sandwiches. But they are best buds and it works well for them.

Then. Along comes Lilly...With her OWN individual way of doing everything. The boys are flummoxed by this irrepressible girl, but I fell in love with her. A strong personality, not afraid to be herself...and wear whatever she feels like wearing.

The boys work hard to ignore Lilly, until....

I've always enjoyed Kevin Henkes, so when I found the video of Vanessa Marano and Katie Leclerc reading/signing this story via Book Riot I had to watch.

Chester and Wilson are inseparable best friends and have their own way of doing everything together. Then, Lilly moved into the neighborhood and she has her own way of doing things. Eventually, they become the best of friends and develop their own way of doing things together.

Both actress did excellent jobs bringing the characters to life. I especially enjoyed watching Leclerc sign the tale.
