May be poetry’s not my thing.
Some of the poems I found really smart and genius but some didn’t make any sense to me!!

Plath really has a sense of making every word valuable in her poetry. Her every word is an image on its own, and together make it sound quite pleasant even when the subject gets quite dark. To the point that I imagined myself reading it out loud to my future kids.

In some poems, I felt like I was understanding, while in others I couldn't get past the aesthetic part and couldn't figure out any meaning or image. I guess it's one of those collections the more you reread, the better you get to understand.

The poems I felt most sensitive to were: 'Mushrooms', 'Snakecharmer', and 'The disquieting muses'.

The Colossus would seem ready-made to be a poet's easy pick for something that inspired them. Unfortunately living in the shadow of the much-loved Ariel, it's not too difficult to see why Plath was well-regarded. While sometimes inscrutable, bundling meaning into dense and unfamiliar synonyms, her imagery has a heft to it that leaves a mark long after reading. Probably my favourite was "Poem for a Birthday" which inspired some of my own poetry.

This demands revisiting and I hope to own a copy in the future.
