A good, fun British romp!
Amusing, sad, poignant - lots of emotions as Kev battles through life.
The pace of the story is quick and at times we jump months forward but this doesn’t detract.
I enjoyed the bits where Kev is performing and would have liked to see more of him in drag but such a lot goes on around him as well - good and bad.
Kev does seem to attract losers for boyfriends but a solid core of friends too.
The cover is a tad misleading, though I do like it - Kev is 18 so no way is the queen on the cover - I did wonder if she may be his drag mother but no.
Kev’s mum is a stalwart but this comes back to bite her on the bum at the end of the book, which does end a bit abruptly. It is more of a dating don’t than a dating do, and almost a diary-like style.
Did enjoy, will get the others to see where Kev ends up.

Note: I received a copy of Adventures in Dating... in Heels by Liam Livings via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

What’s it about, Becca?

Kev Harrison is a teenager who really enjoys cross-dressing. He's known this for awhile, but had to hide away the dresses in his closet; away from his father's non-accepting eyes. It's the nineties in a small village near Salisbury, England & finding a boyfriend and friends that accept his cross-dressing is found to be quite difficult. After obtaining a job at TK Maxxx, Kev Harrison meets Tony Collins, a Goth who loves fashion. The two quickly become best friends, and Tony remains my Kev's side; through thick & thin.

So, what’d ya think?

I'm not 100% sure what I was expecting when requesting this e-arc of Adventures in Dating... in Heels, but the cover instantly drew me in. You see, I'm constantly on the search for LGBT books & I can't recall any other time that I've read a book that focuses on a drag queen; so, I knew I had to read this novel.

With the color spreading across the cover, for some reason I assumed Adventures in Dating... in Heels would be more of an upbeat & bright story of the main character, Kev Harrison. But alas, the beginning chapters are filled with despair, and throughout, Kev struggles with multiple issues.

Kev's dating life is a main aspect of Adventures in Dating... in Heels (which is totally obvious with the novel's title). Every single man that Kev dates makes me want to scream. I wanted Kev to just run & never look back, because all of these boyfriends truly sucked.

But through all of the heartbreak, Kev still had the two people who'd been on his team the entire time: his mother and Tony. Honestly, it's these three characters that make Adventures in Dating... in Heels such an enjoyable read. All of the characters had their own characteristics and made them stand out from the rest, while still having them mesh and fit perfectly together.

Even though Kev does suffer from what seems to be heartbreak after heartbreak and disappointment after disappointment, this book still remained a warm story based on friendship and acceptance. I found myself sad at times, laughing at other times, and falling in love with all of the characters.
