A very comprehensive and informative writing on the state. It further expands Jessop's accounts of Strategic-Relational Approach (SRA)--while also providing the basis of it for those who have not engaged with this concept. As the title suggests, this book thoroughly juxtaposes the past, present, and future (or present-future as Jessop would like to call it) conditions of the state as an assemblage of social relations by drawing from the works of Gramsci, Poulantzas, Foucault, and Luhmann. Also, it'll be helpful to engage with them (or few of them) first to understand Jessop's positioning.
