I like Sanderson's work - it's so immersive. But it's SUCH a commitment.

I've suggested in the past that his books could use a more aggressive editor, and that's still probably true - I'm not at all sure that this story needed 1300 pages to complete. But I have to admit, there aren't many obvious "oh just leave this bit out" parts... (can we call that a "Tom Bombadil?") Anything that happens happens for a reason and characters that are introduced almost always wind up playing a worthwhile role.

These books just keep getting bigger and crazier and more complex, and I love it. I've also really appreciated how he's incorporated some very relatable struggles into his characters with depression, anxiety, addiction, regret, etc., and we get to walk along their path to deal with these struggles along with them trying to deal with the end of the world. And I've enjoyed how even the main conflict isn't nearly as black and white as is often typical in epic fantasy. Excellent book overall. Now just waiting for Stormlight 4...
