A super cute fantasy picture book with engaging page layouts and lots to discover. The story is fairly standard, but I think kids will remember the illustrations and comic-like layout.

A beautiful and magic book about a brother (a robot) and a sister (a log)!

I was searching for something magical. For a picture book. And I bumped into this one. About a little robot prince and his sister the log princess. I just had to see if he would be able to find his sister and I was curious what was going to happen on the way back!

I loved that the king and queen each had their own person to go to when children weren’t happening. And that each of those people made something for them that fitted very well with who they were. A robot from an engineer and a log girl from a witch.

That maid though, LORD, I hope she got fired. Oh my a log coincidentally in the princess her bed. Let me just YEET it out. WTF woman. And why did no one tell her? Oh well, I guess if this hadn’t happened that we would have an adventure.. but still…

I just loved that the brother instantly went on an adventure, a quest. He didn’t even think twice. Oh no. He just followed the trail. Didn’t care how far it would take him. He would find his sister and I was amazed that he went this far. But then comes the way back home and I was getting more and more worried. Because a robot.. well cannot walk like this all the time. And waking up a log and having her become a princess again is a nice idea… but what if the princess gets sleepy? And we also see that both of them have some very interesting (sometimes scary) adventures while going home. SO I was rooting very hard for these two to be able to get home. To make it home safely.

I wouldn’t mind a few more books about the adventures of our Robot and the Princess. We get a small glimpse of them and there are so many that I would love to see turned to full stories!

The ending was just the sweetest. What the animals did. What the witch did. The happiness and joy! It made me smile, I was so happy! I do hope that the parents learned from this. Tell people in the castle about the princess.

The illustrations were wonderful, I just adore Tom Gauld’s style of illustrations. The amount of details! WOW! How beautifully it is all drawn! Be sure to also check the pages before the story.

All in all, I am so happy I found this stunning and beautiful book and that I had the chance to read it. It was certainly a great bedtime story for me. I would recommend it to all.

A straightforward enough story, but imbued with Gauld's distinct sensibilities and artistic style--aimed at kids this time, but still unmissable.

Dipping into fairy tale tropes galore and sprinkling them with a gentle touch of goodness, Gauld tells the story of a Wooden Robot and a Log Princess, destined to be siblings who will love and cherish one another no matter the obstacle.

A king. A queen. A desperate need for a child. Solution? The King visits the royal inventor and the Queen, the clever old witch. Both tasked with the creation of a child, they create and magic of their own and thus our protagonists are born. The Princess though, much like many fairy-tale characters, is touched with a magical curse which means that at night she is fated to turn into a log. And in a brief moment when she is forgotten, the Princess is mistakenly swept away with a boat-load of logs for sale across the water. For not though for her brother is nothing but loyal and seeks out to find and rescue her.

So begins this beautiful little graphic novel in which the Princess and Robot, through determination and love seek to bring one another back home safely. On the way, they encounter all sorts of challenges but overcome them for the love of their sibling. Throughout, Gauld gives nods aplenty to older stories - both fairy tale and picturebook and the story is pitched for adults and children to enjoy alike: as all great children's books are.
