A new and unique take on a familiar subject!

Calla is a strong, determined and loyal alpha Guardian. Guardians protect the Keepers, a powerful group of what I'd called witches. She is very family oriented and her number one goal is to protect her pack, while leading the life that has been laid out for her by the Keepers untilā€¦

Shay. He's been living a vagabond life and consequently hasn't made any personal connections, even with his uncle. There's something special about him and Calla violates the Keepers' rules to save him and for the first time starts questioning those rules.

Nightshade was full of suspense from beginning to end. The Guardians are shapeshifters, but not like any I've read before. Some of their traits remind me of vampires. The Keepers are their government/masters/employer, who control them for their own good. They're to be obeyed and never questioned. I really got into the characters and the world they live in. The bad guys are creepy and romances complicated.

I think it will appeal to fans of The Wolves of Mercy Falls and The Twilight Saga.

Finally finished! Rating may or may not change. Review to come.

It took me so long to get through this book because school has finally started up again, but I am back to review it.

People keep saying it's impossible to tell who Calla will end up with when this series ends, but I find it really obvious by the end of the book, and let me tell you, I see a trend with me disliking the love interests...

Shay was okay at the start of the book, but as it progressed, I sort of wanted to rip his...Well, let's just say it'd be gory. Anyway, Shay is, what I would say, the most dangerous person in the book. He was constantly pulling Calla into trouble, totally ignoring the fact that the things he is getting her into may end up getting her killed. Way to go, hiker-boy.

Then there is Ren, who may have a bit of a temper, but you can tell he really does care for Calla, and doesn't get her into trouble. That's not to say he doesn't have his faults, but he is still a lot better choice than Shay.

Calla was a bit annoying as well. As I do like a heroine who can stand up for herself, she was a bit over-the-top; too tough. Towards the end, she did show a bit more emotion, but as they say: too little, too late.

The one aspect that did annoy me was that Cremer created all these interesting side characters and side-plots, but didn't develope them. I really liked the rest of the pack, specifically Mae (*cough*Mason*cough*). He has his own little problem with their, erm..."master" that was really awesome sounding (well, not for him), but after it was mentioned, all we get was something along the lines of "Logan's gaze lingered Mason" or something to that effect. Maybe it'll be explored a little more in the next couple books, because I'd really like to know what happens. :D

I have no idea when I'm going to get around to the rest of the series, but I can't wait to do so.

I so wanted to like this book. Thereā€™s so few werewolf books that donā€™t revolve around other supernatural creatures. This book has been on my shelf for years and I was so excited to read it, but it fell extremely short. The plot was good, but the main character was just whiny and angsty and couldnā€™t make up her mind and it was annoying and ruined the book. I almost didnā€™t finish it.

I absolutely loved Nightshade and this is definitely my new favorite series already.

There was never a dull moment at any point from the first page to the last. I loved how there was a history and so much detail for not only the main characters, but the supporting ones as well. And the mythology was so well thought out. I was so on edge the entire time, especially because nothing was predictable. Once you think you have something figured out, something completely different happens.

I heard so many good things about Nightshade, but it was never a book I was dying to read. I just happened to see it when I was out and so I grabbed it and I think that's what made it so much better. I didn't have my expectations high so I wasn'tĀ disappointedĀ at all (not that I think you could be!)

I love all the characters and how they are all different from each other, but they fit so well together and balance each other out. Calla is such an amazing character and I think she is perfect for being an Alpha. She is strong, she does (for the most part) what she is suppose to, but she also is able to do what she thinks is right and I think that's what being a leader is about. Some times certain situation don't exactly work out according to rules, and you need to do something else.

While I love Shay, I don't think he and Calla should be together. I them more as the best friends who are able to work together and help each other through anything. Calla and Ren seem to just fit together more. And even though Ren act like he's this big tough guy, you can tell when he is around Calla, that he really cares about her and he acts so different. He would do anything for her.

The plot was just so fast paced and filled excitment and anticipation that you can't put this book down. You get a balance of romance and action. Everything is so well written and thought out that it just fits together perfectly.

It was a little struggle to read. I did after having to take a break finish the book. I liked the main character Calla, however being a alpha it annoyed me she wasn't treated like one by the other pack. I'm not a fan of love triangles and I think that's what put me off on the book most of all. I'm a total werewolf junkie and I really liked the whole concept of the werewolves. I think I'll read the next two books but not as a priority I'd like to know how it ends.

Shay is a douuuche. I don't see how telling someone how they should feel about being told how to feel makes any sense... but whatever. Douche.

I like Calla, even her indecisiveness. Because let's face it, in that world, the girl is allowed to be a little confused.

My precious Ren needs hugs.

Wow. Where do I even start with this? This was such an amazing book and so wonderfully written. I was hooked from the first page! I had a hard time deciding who I liked better: Ren or Shay? But by the end I was in love with Ren.
SpoilerI'm not gonna lie, Calla irratated me a bit with all the lies and secrecy, and I really do wish she had chosen Ren instead, but I can't wait to see what happens in Wolfsbane!
Overall, great book that I highly recommend!
