Useful information that covered a wide timeline. A bit repetitive and hard to follow at times. I think this was a bit too academic for me, a lot of it went over my head, and I'd like to revisit it sometime in the future to really study it.

incredibly powerful book. If the content of the book wasn't saturated with technical knowledge I would recommend for everyone to read this book. It truthfully goes to show how biases/behaviors that exist within cultures don't populate overnight and simmer through generations. I commend Ms. Washington for compiling all the evidence that probably took tens of years to obtain and collecting accounts from individuals that were effected.

This was, without a doubt, the most difficult book I've ever read. Though masterfully written and explosive, I had to take several mental health breaks to regroup. My stomach and heart ached, my anger flared, and my soul hurt; but my life has been improved having read this. Self education is so incredibly important, especially for parents. We can never hope to do better until we know better, and we can never fully know better until we open our eyes to the full force of what happened and is happening.
