This took a long time to get into but I did enjoy it once it got going. I thought all the resistance stuff was poorly done and boring but I really loved Elias and after about the half way mark I stopped hating Laia. Not worth all the hype but definitely worth a second read and I'm excited for the next book.

Didn’t live up to the hype. I felt like this really dragged and I was bored 90% of the time. Nothing was fleshed out and the characters weren’t likeable. Very predictable too.

The trials were supposed to be exciting but they lasted for like a chapter each, it felt like a quick speed run and not an essential part of the story at all.
I don’t see how this book/plot has been dragged out into a quartet.

Not the worst read of the year but reading this felt like crawling through mud.
