I absolutely loved this book. I don't give 5 stars lightly, but this book is one of the most honest and vulnerable bits of writing I've read in a long time, whilst also being very funny. McCurdy has an incredible way with words, and beautifully, tragically, imbued the feelings of nostalgia and grief in the text. She has an excellent ability to remove emotion and reinstate it where required, taking you alongside the journey of an abuse survivors experience of going from "this doesn't feel fine but its how it goes" to "that was awful" once processing kicks in. 

It wasn't an easy ready emotionally, but I tore through this book - McCurdy's writing style is moreish, and I found myself listening to the audiobook in bits which was excellently read by her. 

Jennette was a feature of my childhood and teen years, and her honesty about her experience of EDs has helped heal a part of myself which emerged at the same age of 11 from that fear of growing up. I did not read this book for a long time because I knew the content would be difficult for me, especially at the point I was at when it was published, and I'm glad I both waited and actually read it now. 

Seeing her be so frank on paper, and in her own voice, was incredibly profound and I don't doubt this book will stay with me for a very, very long time.

So raw and vulnerable, I can’t imagine how difficult writing and then sharing this with the world must have been. She finds the perfect balance between giving painful details while leaving some things unsaid for the reader to read between the lines.

Oh my lord. This is the second autobiography/ memoir that has really stuck to me. This book wasn’t just a story, it was a lifetime of real experience wrapped so artfully into a novel. I am so grateful to have read this, especially as a teenage girl who has mental health struggles. While I did not grow up watching Nickelodeon, seeing someone like Jannette be authentic and honest about child stardom, mental health, and complicated relationships (& so much more) has not only given me a world of perspective but also a new confidence that I am capable. That my slips will not always be slides. That success isn’t linear, and that doesn’t mean I’m doing something wrong. I’m infinitely grateful to Jannette for writing this, and I hope that she is proud of this book because it truly is something to be proud of. This is so important. You are changing lives as Jannette McCurdy, not someone else.
