I really loved the authenticity of Jennette discussing her life experience and coming to terms with her abusive relationship with her mum. The only downside was I felt that the final section of the book was a bit rushed and each chapter she aged years, whilst earlier on felt more gradual and like real-time.

Phew, this was a heck of a book. It was very easy to read in terms of writing style, but damn it‘s heavy. Every chapter you feel like it could not possibly get worse, but it does. The trauma that Jennette McCurdy must have lived through is tremendous.
If you are in a stable position mentally, I would definitely and 100% recommend this book!

A memoir by iCarly and Sam & Cat star about her upbringing and acting career. Who hasn’t been drawn in by the name of this alone?

What can be said about this one that hasn’t already been said? Probably nothing. This is dark, gritty, honest, bare, and overly revealing. It’s written like someone just needed to get the words out, and with the content involved, I’d bet that really was the case. Living out someone else’s dream is not something you should have to do. Parents shouldn’t live vicariously through their children. Your life should be your own.

An important view into how the world, mothers included, treat their daughters/girls and women. Personally a 5/5*. The author’s narration was an added gift to the novel.

Shocking to read about the kind of people who become parents and about the struggles they leave behind in their children, in more than one generation. I've never known anything about McCurdy before listening to this and I didn't feel like I would've needed to, but maybe there are things I would've understood the context of had I been a fan of hers through the years.
