I always feel weird about rating non-fiction books because they are so personal to the author and giving it a star rating wouldn't be the right way to go about it. However, this book is 5 stars worthy. It took my a while to get through it because some parts just hit too close to home. The writing (I listened to this on audiobook because Jennette actually narrates it herself and I would highly recommend consuming this book that way!), it's unfiltered and raw, and uncomfortable at times– but it's a book that everyone must read.
5 stars.

I don't willingly read biographies, but this one changed me. Despite having no previous connection to the author and never having seen her as an actor, I ended up reading this book in one go. It was reflective and personal to McCurdy, talking about how greatly her mother impacted her life and relationships, even after her death. It was written from the heart, with no bull. It kept me engaged, not overly biased like many biographies, but neat, clear writing. The timeline jumped from different parts of her life, connecting memories, yet was easy to follow.amharless417's review
