This was a very powerful book. At times was hard to listen too but I’m struck by the strength it must have taken to share her story.

Good god. McCurdy’s writing is genius in this book, she tackles topics that many others would butcher but she lived them so she has no choice but to tell the truth; the whole brutal, gut twisting, illustrative truth. I’ve read this twice now and I’ll inevitably read it again. There’s no limit to what people will do for money, or to claw their way higher, and children’s lives, education, health and safety are no obstacles.

McCurdy's story is honest, gripping, and terribly sad, yet she tells it in a way that's compelling, interesting, and often funny. This book is full of vulnerability and does an excellent job of conveying the experience of abuse and psychological disorders. I wish I could read it for the first time again and again.
